What We Do

Overnight Camps

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul operates sleep away camps for girls and boys ages 6 through 12 in a peaceful, rural setting approximately 70 miles outside New York City. The children are invited to spend a week in the fresh air and sunshine, away from cell phones and electronic games, where they can learn new skills and activities such as swimming, basketball, and scavenger hunts. The camp has been a part of SVdP for more than 40 years, staffed by responsible adults and teen counselors. Many of our teens have grown up with our camp, and often return to serve the younger campers as camp counselors.

Shelter for Homeless Women

SVdP has sponsored a shelter for the homeless at St. Ignatius Loyola since the 1970’s. Once a shelter for homeless men, we are now a shelter for women. Our guests are warmly cared for by a dedicated team of Vincentians and other volunteers. The women are welcomed in from the cold weekend nights throughout the winter months. If you are homeless, or know someone who is, please call our partnering drop in center at (212) 883-0680.

Burial Assistance

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul believes it is our duty as faithful Catholics to bury the dead. We partner with several local funeral homes to supply a dignified burial for those without the necessary funds for a simple, direct burial.

Upper East Side Nursing and Rehab Center Visits

Dedicated Vincentians make weekly visits to the residents of local nursing homes. They spend time talking to and praying with the residents, offering friendship and the Holy Eucharist.
